Una giovane coppia decide di traslocare in un tranquillo paesino irlandese in seguito alla tragica morte della propria figlia. Più che una fuga, Martha e Tomas stanno cercando di ricostruirsi una vita lontano dai terribili ricordi appena trascorsi. I due hanno modo di conoscere una bambina affetta da autismo, con la quale si instaura subito un legame speciale. Si tratta di Daisy, orfana di entrambi i genitori, una condizione che spinge immediatamente i coniugi ad accoglierla nella loro famiglia. C'è però qualcosa di molto strano in Daisy: nessuno del villaggio vuole averla intorno, anzi, tutti la cacciano come un'appestata. Strane voci ruotano infatti attorno alla minuta figura della bambina, la quale mostrerà presto la sua vera natura.
